As this is the year of me turning half a century, I have decided to say yes to any new opportunities that come my way.
After a random conversation last year with the people that run this foundation I couldn’t help but get involved, especially when I realised that it would involve Netball!
So I am extremely excited that I will be spending the first two weeks of June this year in Malawi helping to update and rebuild a school with The Tongole Foundation . This charity works mainly in the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, where people live on less than a dollar a day.
They have refurbished local primary schools and built one from scratch, these schools house over 2000 school children.
As well as providing sustainable means of growing food, supplying chickens, and tablets for the children to learn on, they also aim to supply sports equipment, which is where I come in.
As well as working to improve the schools, I also want to take over with me Netball bibs, balls and cones so that I can run a few Netball sessions and at the end a tournament. If you didn’t know I was PE teacher back in the day so I have a good idea what I want to do.
I’ve been told that they will be over the moon with this so my aim is to prove that the huge community of Netballers from Sheffield can help me provide as much Netball equipment as I can possibly fit in two large suitcases.
So. I am after donations of old sets of bibs, old dresses that you might have hanging around, any Netballs (deflated), ball pumps, sports socks, and whistles.

Slightly scarred at stepping foot into the unknown, but also excited for the new opportunity.
If you cannot provide any actual kit, I am also fundraising £1000 which pays for building materials that I will be using during my time there. My travel costs have been paid for personally so anything I raise goes straight to the charity.
